Bandana has grown to over a million monthly active users since October 2023, fields jobs for thousands of employers and is investing heavily into building the best job search and career platform for blue collar workers. We’re building out our team to improve our product and lay a solid foundation for Bandana to begin tackling major initiatives like launching AI-driven job applications, mock interviewing, a best-in-class ATS (applicant tracking system), and the most powerful job search experience in the world.

As a senior backend engineer, you’ll be responsible for leading engineering efforts across both our job-seeker and company experiences. You’ll be responsible for driving best practices, shaping technical vision and system architecture, and setting the engineering culture that drives Bandana’s product and mission forward.

Responsibilities

• Develop major products like AI-driven job applications, a best-in-class search experience, and career progression tools
• Define and drive the long-term architecture and technical direction of backend systems while working with the team to develop best practices along the way.
• Build and maintain core infrastructure — CI/CD, observability, compute, and service frameworks — that power all engineering teams.
• Work with the rest of the Bandana team to understand user needs and drive product features to address them

You might be a good fit if you…

• Have 7+ years of experience in software
• Have production experience with TypeScript, Node.js, Next.js, Prisma ORM, and Postgres
• Have extensive experience developing high-scale, production-ready backend APIs and async event-driven services
• Are highly proficient with cloud production environments and container orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes, etc)
• Have a history of mentoring engineers and contributing to team growth
• Are well versed with infrastructure as code
• Communicate clearly, and thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment where you balance strategy and execution

Strong candidates may also:

• Have worked extensively with Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
• Have led multi-team platform initiatives or owned company-wide developer infrastructure
• Have contributed to internal or open-source platform tooling (e.g., CI/CD frameworks, service scaffolding)
• Have experience working with job-seeking or hiring platforms
• Have experience with agentic AI systems, especially if you have developed multiagent/federated systems or implemented robustness monitoring and observability

Interview Process

1. Intro: 30min chat and overview of Bandana with our recruiting team
2. Technical screen: 60min technical exercise with a member of our engineering team
3. System design: 60min interview with a member of our engineering team
4. Onsite Loop: A full day with the Bandana team. You’ll have five 1 hour sessions + lunch on us

Pay and Benefits

💸 Base compensation: $180,000 - $200,000 USD
