Awardco is reimagining the workplace to be more rewarding, supportive, and fun for everyone. As one of the fastest-growing companies in the employee experience industry, our mission is to help employees love what they do, love where they work, and get recognized for their efforts—especially our own employees! And as winners of Glassdoor’s Best Places to Work, Best in Brightest in the Nation, and Great Place to Work, we do much more than talk the talk.

We are looking for a hands-on, detail-oriented Senior Variable Compensation Specialist to help scale and strengthen our variable compensation operations as Awardco continues to grow. This role will be a key partner to Finance, Sales, Revenue Operations, and People teams, owning the end-to-end administration, calculation, accounting, and analysis of commissions and other incentive-based compensation plans. This position plays a critical role in ensuring accurate and timely commission payouts and will build scalable processes in a fast-paced SaaS environment. The ideal candidate thrives in ambiguity, enjoys digging into data and systems, and can balance recurring operational work with improving and maturing our variable compensation infrastructure.

This role is perfect for someone who wants to take ownership, be a subject-matter expert, and make a meaningful impact as our sales organization and compensation plans become more complex. This is an individual contributor role.

What you will do:

  • Plan Administration: Calculate commission and incentive award payments to sales personnel based on commission plan provisions. Calculate other incentive-based compensation plans.
  • Operational Execution: Execute monthly, quarterly, and annual commission close processes in close partnership with Accounting and Payroll.
  • Program Support: Perform staff support activities needed for the development, implementation, communication, and administration of sales commission or incentive programs, plans, policies, and quotas.
  • Verification & Accuracy: Review commission payment reports for accuracy and completeness; verify and follow through to ensure timeliness of payments as outlined in the plan.
  • Reconciliation: Resolve reconciliation issues and maintain or audit information needed to track revenue.
  • Strategic Analysis: Analyze sales performance results and prepare commission expense reports, presentations, and recommendations for sales and/or finance management.
  • System Optimization: Maintain and optimize variable compensation systems to effectively track or capture data; ensure accurate data flows from CRM and ERP systems.
  • Financial Modeling: Perform cost analysis or modeling of alternative commission/incentive plan design or quota levels.
  • Process Improvement: Document and improve processes, controls, and policies to ensure scalability, auditability, and efficiency.

What you will bring:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related business field.
  • Experience: 4–7+ years of experience in variable compensation, commissions operations, accounting, or sales finance within a SaaS or high-growth environment.
  • Technical Expertise: Hands-on experience with Incentive Compensation Management (ICM) systems such as CaptivateIQ (preferred) or Xactly.
  • Systems Knowledge: Experience working with CRM systems (Salesforce preferred) and complex data sets.
  • Analytical Proficiency: Experience using spreadsheets, ERP systems, or dedicated computer programs to gather data for payment calculation or analysis.
  • Financial Acumen: Strong understanding of commission accounting, accruals, and internal controls; SOX experience preferred.
