This role leads financial strategy, budgeting, forecasting, and analysis for ArriVent’s clinical and R&D programs and projects. As the R&D and CMC finance program lead, the Associate Director / Director, FP&A drives financial management for clinical development and manufacturing initiatives. Strategic thinking and hands-on execution are required, with independent problem solving in a primarily remote environment.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the finance lead for R&D and CMC programs, with primary responsibility for clinical program and project financial management.
- Lead development of annual R&D budgets, quarterly forecasts, and multi-year financial models for clinical and CMC assets.
- Execute hands-on financial tasks, including modeling, reporting, variance analysis, and quarter-end close processes for clinical and CMC activities.
- Partner with clinical, CMC, research, and administrative teams to analyze program-level spending, identify budget drivers, and provide actionable insights.
- Prepare accurate, insightful financial reports for senior leadership and the Board, focusing on clinical program performance and key business drivers.
- Create dynamic financial models to evaluate strategic decisions, such as funding new clinical programs or expanding operations.
- Implement, test, and maintain company financial controls and data management systems for R&D and CMC functions.
- Manage cash flow forecasting for the clinical pipeline, providing guidance for fundraising or partnering activities.
- Collaborate closely with R&D, Clinical Operations, and Manufacturing to build, track, and refine budgets based on program milestones and timelines.
- Proactively identify and resolve operational and financial challenges in a resource-constrained, start-up environment.
- Operate with significant autonomy, taking ownership of issues and solutions with minimal oversight.
- Strong collaboration skills and demonstrated track record of working effectively in cross-functional teams.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
- 7+ years in senior financial management, including experience in small or start-up companies.
- 4+ years in the biopharmaceutical sector, with direct experience in clinical program FP&A and CMC financial management.
- Advanced skills in FP&A processes, business and cost analysis, forecasting models, and SOX controls.
- Mastery of Adaptive, Excel, and familiarity with other reporting/analytical tools.
- Experience with ERP systems (SAGE preferred) and planning/budgeting tools (Anaplan, Hyperion, Oracle, Planful, etc.).
- Demonstrated ability to thrive in a start-up or high-growth environment.
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills; willingness to “roll up your sleeves” to get work done.
- Strong organizational, communication, and time management skills.
- Customer-focused, team-oriented, and able to work independently in a primarily remote environment.
- Self-motivated, highly communicative, and effective in virtual collaboration.
