Please note that we are an in-office company, which means the expectation is that you would come in to your Applied Intuition office 5 days a week.

About the role

We are looking for a strategic and tactical Payroll Manager to join our growing Finance team. You will be the first dedicated hire for the function and will be responsible for all aspects of payroll operations, payroll tax and reporting, and payroll compliance.

At Applied Intuition, you will:

  • Oversee the payroll processing for multi-state domestic and international exempt and nonexempt employees, including bi-weekly payroll and employee equity settlements
  • Lead and manage the day-to-day global payroll activities ensuring accurate and timely processing in compliance with Applied’s policies and local, state, federal, and international tax and relevant labor regulations
  • Identify, recommend, and implement best practices in payroll and payroll accounting and streamline payroll operations, systems, and procedures
  • Prepare and file various tax forms, including Form 941, W-2, etc.
  • Prepare payroll related journal entries and ensure payroll expense and accrued liabilities are recorded in accordance with U.S. GAAP and reconciled to underlying support
  • Prepare monthly payroll journal entries
  • Perform monthly variance analysis on compensation expenses and balance sheet accounts and prepare commentary explaining the variances
  • Contribute to the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, including: completing reconciliations, escalating and resolving issues, and meeting all associated deadlines
  • Facilitate audits by providing records and documentation to auditors
  • Maintain a complete understanding of all US federal / state wage and hour laws related to payroll, including garnishments, benefits, leave of absence, 401k, HSA, FSA, and taxes

We’re looking for someone who has:

  • 5+ years of progressive payroll experience
  • Extensive knowledge of payroll laws and regulations, to include multi-state and international payroll
  • Understanding of U.S. GAAP and experience with booking and reconciling accrued payroll liabilities
  • Proven experience with quarterly and year-end tax filings, funding of 401(k) and HSA accounts, and W-2 processing
  • Strong analytical skills, high attention to detail, and an ability to prioritize in a dynamic work environment
  • Proficiency with payroll systems and advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Exceptional communication and collaboration skills, with a customer-focused approach and ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams
  • Experience with NetSuite

Nice to have:

  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP)
  • Experience with Rippling and Workday
  • International payroll experience in Japan and Germany

Compensation at Applied Intuition for eligible roles includes base salary, equity, and benefits. Base salary is a single component of the total compensation package, which may also include equity in the form of options and/or restricted stock units, comprehensive health, dental, vision, life and disability insurance coverage, 401k retirement benefits with employer match, learning and wellness stipends, and paid time off. Note that benefits are subject to change and may vary based on jurisdiction of employment.

Applied Intuition pay ranges reflect the minimum and maximum intended target base salary for new hire salaries for the position. The actual base salary offered to a successful candidate will additionally be influenced by a variety of factors including experience, credentials & certifications, educational attainment, skill level requirements, interview performance, and the level and scope of the position.

Please reference the job posting’s subtitle for where this position will be located. For pay transparency purposes, the base salary range for this full-time position in the location listed is: $95,000 to $115,000 USD annually.
