Anthropic’s mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. We want AI to be safe and beneficial for our users and for society as a whole. Our team is a quickly growing group of committed researchers, engineers, policy experts, and business leaders working together to build beneficial AI systems.

About Anthropic

Anthropic mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. We want AI to be safe and beneficial for our users and for society as a whole. Our team is a quickly growing group of committed researchers, engineers, policy experts, and business leaders working together to build beneficial AI systems.

About the Role

We are seeking a Procurement Business Partner Leader to support Anthropic rapidly scaling compute infrastructure operations. This role is critical in managing procurement workflows for our AI compute capacity while maintaining financial discipline and operational excellence during unprecedented growth.

As a key member of our finance procurement team, you will partner closely with Infrastructure, Security, and Engineering teams to optimize vendor relationships, drive cost savings, and will be responsible for establishing scalable procurement frameworks. You are the bridge between Infrastructure, Finance, Legal, and Security. You will be responsible for designing and delivering scalable procurement solutions that are audit ready.

Responsibilities:

  • Building the operating models set up for scalable procurement (systems, flows, governance structures)
  • Designing DRI/RACI frameworks for cross-functional handoffs
  • Ensuring controls meet audit-readiness standards from the start
  • Conduct vendor analysis to identify cost savings opportunities and support business negotiations
  • Conduct financial analysis, including explaining budget vs. actual and flux variance drivers, and identifying early indicators of over/under pacing against budget targets
  • Defining controls and SLAs specific to hardware supplier onboarding, receiving/inspection workflows, and CapEx tagging
  • Ensuring supplier master data, PO data, and hardware asset classifications meet accounting requirements
  • Establishing reconciliation routines for materials, receipts, and supplier payments and ensuring we have strong controls that enable us to track liabilities and manage supplier payments with confidence
  • Train and onboard business owners and vendors on procurement processes and best practices
  • Coordinate with the Compute/Infrastructure engineering team and ensure their approved vendors meet procurement requirements
  • Build and maintain interim reconciliation workbooks to provide Finance, Legal, and Security with complete visibility until systems are operationalized
  • Develop strategic vendor relationships to drive strategic value and optimize performance across the organization
  • Embed Claude into key procurement workflows (intake, onboarding, PO management, reconciliation) to reduce manual effort and improve cycle times.

You may be a good fit if you have:

  • 10+ years of experience in procurement, with 2+ years in datacenter infrastructure operations
  • Understanding of compute infrastructure components (servers, GPUs/TPUs, networking, storage)
  • Experience managing high-value, complex procurement relationships
  • Strong understanding of 2-way and 3-way match procure-to-pay processes and purchase order management
  • Experience with procurement systems (Zip, Workday ERP, or similar)
  • Capital-intensive procurement experience with datacenter buildouts, power infrastructure, and understanding components of long-lead-time equipment procurement
  • Proven track record of process improvement and workflow optimization
  • Analytical skills for vendor analysis, cost savings identification, and budget tracking
  • Cross-functional collaboration experience working with diverse business stakeholders
  • Growth company experience comfortable with ambiguity and rapid scaling environments

Strong candidates may have:

  • Bachelor degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or related field
  • Experience with AI/ML infrastructure procurement (GPUs, TPUs, high-performance computing)
  • Knowledge of datacenter operations including power, cooling, and space planning
  • Familiarity with cloud procurement models and enterprise agreements
  • Background working with hyperscale cloud providers (AWS, Google Cloud, Azure)
  • Awareness of supply chain challenges in semiconductor industry
  • Understanding of datacenter security and compliance standards
  • Background in vendor management and strategic relationship development
  • SOX compliance and financial control frameworks

Deadline to apply: None. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.

Education requirements: We require at least a Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.

Location-based hybrid policy:
Currently, we expect all staff to be in one of our offices at least 25% of the time. However, some roles may require more time in our offices.

Visa sponsorship: We do sponsor visas! However, we aren't able to successfully sponsor visas for every role and every candidate. But if we make you an offer, we will make every reasonable effort to get you a visa, and we retain an immigration lawyer to help with this.

Research shows that people who identify as being from underrepresented groups are more prone to experiencing imposter syndrome and doubting the strength of their candidacy, so we urge you not to exclude yourself prematurely and to submit an application if you're interested in this work. We think AI systems like the ones we're building have enormous social and ethical implications. We think this makes representation even more important, and we strive to include a range of diverse perspectives on our team.

How we're different

We believe that the highest-impact AI research will be big science. At Anthropic we work as a single cohesive team on just a few large-scale research efforts. And we value impact — advancing our long-term goals of steerable, trustworthy AI — rather than work on smaller and more specific puzzles. We view AI research as an empirical science, which has as much in common with physics and biology as with traditional efforts in computer science. We're an extremely collaborative group, and we host frequent research discussions to ensure that we are pursuing the highest-impact work at any given time. As such, we greatly value communication skills.

The easiest way to understand our research directions is to read our recent research. This research continues many of the directions our team worked on prior to Anthropic, including: GPT-3, Circuit-Based Interpretability, Multimodal Neurons, Scaling Laws, AI & Compute, Concrete Problems in AI Safety, and Learning from Human Preferences.
