We are seeking highly motivated, creative, and collaborative individuals who are passionate and dedicated about using their expertise to make impactful contributions to unravel the biological mechanisms underlying cell health and rejuvenation, including basic science and preclinical programs.

Qualified applicants will have a PhD in life sciences, coupled with strong training in one or more of the following fields:

  • Cellular reprogramming and stem cell biology
  • Molecular and cell biology: prior expertise in extracellular communication, non-canonical ORFs, translational controland stress responses is a plus
  • Preclinical models
  • Functional CRISPR-Cas9 screenings
  • Computational biology

Minimum Qualifications

  • Critical thinking and ability to formulate scientific questions, design strategies, and implement the plans effectively
  • A strong sense of collective ownership of projects within the group and Altos
  • Demonstrated high productivity and ability to complete work in a timely manner

About the Abad Lab

The Abad Lab studies the interplay between stress responses and the acquisition of cellular plasticity for tissue repair. Maria Abad discovered that cellular reprogramming is feasible in vivo, in living organisms, and has contributed to the concept that that tissue damage, through the induction of cellular senescence, creates a microenvironment critical for cellular reprogramming. More recently, her group has studied the translation of small open reading frames (sORFs) located in assumed non-coding regions, and her group has identified several lncRNA-derived microproteins with important roles in cellular plasticity. At Altos Cambridge, the group aims to create a multidisciplinary and collaborative program to unravel how the proteome is shaped to cope with stress, and to identify novel cell-intrinsic and cell-extrinsic determinants of cellular reprogramming and tissue rejuvenation.

The salary ranges for this position are: Scientist I £42,000 to £69,000; Scientist II £50,000 to £90,000
