Job Title: Sr. Mechanical Engineer
Job Summary: Alsym Energy is looking for a self-driven and motivated mechanical engineer with a passion in the field of energy storage. In this position, the candidate will have an opportunity to drive rapid and innovative advancements in materials and processes for next-generation energy storage systems. The successful candidate will be responsible for active product development efforts and will work closely with a team of engineers and scientists to deliver Sodium-ion systems with demanding performance requirements.
Industry Background: Energy storage systems is a rapidly emerging field. Over the last few years, supply-chain constraints and significant safety incidents arising from lithium-ion batteries globally have resulted in a dramatic increase in costs and reduced confidence in the reliability of the technology. Alsym is working on an exciting proprietary battery technology that is expected to compete with state-of-the-art lithium-ion batteries while offering the technology at a fraction of the cost and with inherent non-flammability.
Key Qualifications:
- BS in Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
- 6+ years industry experience with demonstrated success in mech. design, product development, prototyping
- Direct experience with lithium or sodium-ion battery design and manufacturing is highly preferred
- Hands-on experience with modern prototyping techniques (3D Printing, laser-cutting, water-jetting)
- Strong competency with engineering software tools is required (CAD, layout etc.)
- Experience with finite -element analysis (ANSYS, COMSOL etc.) is highly preferred
- Experience with battery production equipment (sealer, winders, coaters etc.) is preferred
- Strong team player, excellent communicator, self-motivated individual with a problem-solving mindset
- Professional demeanor towards suppliers and partners as well as colleagues
- Detail-oriented individual with a quality mindset for product design and delivery
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Produce designs and drawings for Alsym’s cells, modules and fixtures
- Support Alsym’s external cell and module build events (5-10% travel)
- Assist battery engineers in the commissioning and debugging of battery equipment
- Conduct experiments in the lab setting to guide design efforts
