Title: LIMS Devloper

About the Role

Alsym Energy is seeking a creative and driven LIMS Developer to mature and extend the capabilities of our data integration and processing infrastructure. This role presents the opportunity to combine database architecture, complex data analysis, and data governance leadership to have a major impact at the application- and platform- level. The primary objective for a person in this role is to generate a solution capable of seamless transformation of multiple data streams into an integrated form that generates maximum value as part of our next generation battery development initiative. Key to success in this role will be the ability to understand and manipulate many forms of incoming physical, chemical, and electrochemical data to facilitate an understanding for complex relationships throughout the product’s life cycle to drive technological advancements. The ideal candidate will bridge scientific workflows with robust informatics solutions and will have a pivotal relationship engaging Alsym’s process engineering, battery scientist as well as its computational team.

Company Background: Alsym Energy, Inc is a leading innovator in the rapidly changing field of battery energy storage. It is essential for the world to succeed in the transition to sustainable energy and batteries are at the very core of the solution. In fact, the IEA predicts that 60% of CO2 emission reductions in 2030 will be directly related to batteries. This mission is what drives us every day. Over the last few years, supply-chain constraints and significant safety incidents arising from lithium-ion batteries have reduced confidence in the suitability of the technology. Alsym’s advanced sodium ion technology enables the highest performing non- lithium-ion battery in the industry, based on its safe, sustainable and long-lasting energy storage solution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development and implementation of a comprehensive battery database including the unification of component- process- instrument- and cell performance data.
  • Develop and deploy a SampleManager- based solution as a centralized repository for incoming experimental data that enables complex processing and informatics workflows.
  • Build automated pipelines and analytic capabilities that harvest and transform raw physical, chemical and electrochemical data (e.g. XRD, Raman, SEM, cell capacity) to establish clear multi-dimensional structure- property relationships.
  • Establish and disseminate data generation and handling protocols to standardize a durable and scalable data ecosystem to ensure long-term continuity of product related data to protect and guarantee the value of the product for the lifetime of the program.
  • Collaborate with AI/ML teams to ensure data formats, metadata, and repositories are structured for advanced analytics, machine learning, and automated insights.
  • Collaborate with IT to ensure secure, reliable, and compliant data storage solutions.
  • Train and support scientists and engineers on best practices for data entry, retrieval.

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, Data Science, Software Engineering, or related fields
  • 2+ years of experience in database architecture, LIMS administration, or scientific informatics.
  • Proven expertise in SQL and NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB), ETL pipelines, and data modeling.
  • Strong knowledge of laboratory workflows and experimental data management.
  • Familiarity with AI/ML data requirements, data warehousing, and metadata standards.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to work across multidisciplinary teams.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Minor degree or 3+ years’ experience relating to work in the physical sciences, including materials science, chemistry, physics, chemical engineering, or related fields.
  • 2 years of experience working with complex systems involving numerous inter-related electrochemical, chemical and physical dimensions.
  • Prior experience integrating digital and non-networked lab instruments into centralized data systems.
  • Strong understanding of data compliance, audit readiness, and scientific documentation practices.
  • Programming in SQL, Python, C# is a plus
