Job Title: Inorganic Synthesis Chemist

Alsym Energy is looking for an Inorganic Synthesis Scientist with a strong background in metal oxide and metal carbide synthesis and a passion for material innovation. This role involves close collaboration with our computational team to spearhead high throughput experimentation for accelerated material discovery, focusing on battery materials that redefine performance and sustainability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and conduct synthesis of metal oxides and metal carbides with targeted structures and phases, utilizing high throughput methodologies.
  • Work closely with the computational team to inform experimental design and optimize material properties through predictive models.
  • Implement and refine automation processes for the synthesis and characterization of materials, enhancing efficiency and scalability.
  • Characterize synthesized materials using advanced techniques (XRD, SEM, TEM, etc.) and collaborate on the integration and testing of these materials in battery prototypes.
  • Contribute to a multidisciplinary research environment, sharing insights and collaborating across teams to achieve project milestones.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and advancements in material science, computational techniques, and automation in research.
  • Document and communicate research findings through presentations and patent applications.
  • Guide and mentor junior scientists and technicians, fostering a culture of learning and innovation.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • PhD in Chemistry, Materials Science, or a related field, with a strong emphasis on inorganic synthesis.
  • Demonstrated expertise in synthesizing metal oxides and a comprehensive understanding of material characterization techniques.
  • Experience in working with computational models and AI tools for material discovery and optimization.
  • Proficiency in automation technologies and high throughput experimentation workflows.
  • Excellent collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Creative problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to research and development.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Postdoctoral or relevant industrial experience with a focus on battery materials.
  • Knowledge of electrochemical characterization techniques and their application to battery materials.
  • Experience in project management and leadership within a research and development setting.
