Job Title: Engineer or Associate Engineer, Electrode Engineering

Job Summary: Alsym Energy, Inc is looking for a self-driven and motivated engineer with a passion in the field of energy storage. In this position, the candidate will have an opportunity to drive rapid and innovative advancements in materials and processes for next-generation energy storage systems. The successful candidate will be responsible for active R&D efforts and will work closely with a team of engineers and scientists to deliver products with demanding performance requirements. This position will be excellent for recently graduated candidates who are seeking an exciting field to work in with a promise of a rapid career growth.

Industry Background: Energy storage systems is a rapidly emerging field. Over the last few years, supply-chain constraints and significant safety incidents arising from lithium-ion batteries globally have resulted in a dramatic increase in costs and reduced confidence in the reliability of the technology. Alsym is working on an exciting proprietary aqueous battery technology that is expected to compete with state-of-the-art lithium-ion batteries while offering the technology at a fraction of the cost and with inherent non-flammability.

Key Qualifications:

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Material Science and Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field.
  • Two years of industry experience working in the energy storage is a plus. Internships, undergraduate research, and co-ops may be considered for exceptional candidates.
  • Fundamental understanding of slurry fluid formulation and rheology is required.
  • Experience in batteries, catalysts, inorganic pigments, or ceramics is desired.
  • Strong working knowledge about battery electrode composition, formulations, and coatings.
  • A basic understanding of electrode-level characterizations, such as rheological, mechanical, and electrical properties will be required.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Work with a team of engineers and provide hands-on support for all aspects of a coating operation including mixing, slurry delivery systems, conveyance, web treatment, coating, and drying. This may also include working with relevant staff to prepare SOPs and other necessary documentation.
  • Assist in characterizations and quality control of electrode builds.
  • Evaluate electrode properties as a function of active material characteristics such as particle size, morphology, and particle size distribution. Familiarity with characterization techniques such as SEM, EDX, particle size analyzer, BET, mercury porosimetry, etc. will be highly beneficial.
  • This role may further require evaluating and optimizing electrode pre-treatment and/or post-treatment conditions.
  • Collate test data and work with relevant staff to analyze key findings.

Compensation, Benefits, and Perks:

We are committed to providing equitable compensation and a healthy working environment for our employees with a benefits package that provides the support that you need. We cover 80% of the employee’s premium medical insurance cost through Blue Cross Blue Shield, dental insurance through Bento Dental, offer a flexible Paid Time Off program, and maintain a firm Harassment Policy that includes Diversity, Inclusion, Equity, & Gender Protections.
