About 1001
1001 builds AI-powered operational intelligence for complex, data-heavy environments. We turn fragmented data into a live, unified model of operations, helping governments and large enterprises make better decisions and solve high-stakes problems.
Our engagements start with forward-deployed teams working inside the customer environment. They use real data, build quickly, and iterate until the system proves itself, then scale it across the organization.
1001 is backed by Lux Capital, General Catalyst, CIV, Hanabi, Sanabil, and 9Yards, with angels including Chris RĂ©, Amjad Masad, Karim Atiyeh, Kareem Amin, and Russell Kaplan.
About the role
Security is central to earning the trust of customers who rely on 1001 to handle sensitive operational data. It is also often a deciding factor in whether a deployment moves forward.
As a Security Engineer, you will own security across our product, infrastructure, cloud environments, and corporate systems. You will work directly with enterprise security teams, leading reviews, questionnaires, and procurement conversations.
This is a hands-on role. You will identify the most important risks, build the controls needed to address them, and establish secure defaults before incidents force the issue.
What you will work on
- Own security across the product, infrastructure, cloud environments, and corporate systems.
- Secure company accounts and identity systems, including Google Workspace, Microsoft, Slack, GitHub, cloud accounts, identity providers, password managers, device policies, and access controls.
- Establish and maintain company-wide security practices.
- Lead customer-facing security reviews, questionnaires, and procurement conversations with enterprise security teams.
- Define and implement security controls, threat models, and policies.
- Build secure-by-default patterns into the platform and deployment workflows.
- Drive compliance work for SOC 2, ISO 27001, and relevant regional equivalents.
- Respond to incidents, investigate risks, and implement preventative controls.
- Address AI-specific risks involving data handling, models, prompts, and agentic systems.
What we are looking for
- At least 5 years of experience in security engineering, including substantial product or cloud security work at a B2B or enterprise SaaS company.
- Strong cloud security experience with AWS, GCP, or Azure.
- Practical expertise in application security and identity and access management.
- Experience leading customer-facing security and compliance conversations.
- A hands-on approach, with the ability to design and implement controls directly.
- Experience with AI-specific risks, including data handling, model and prompt security, and agentic systems.
Working at 1001
We take on high-stakes problems in environments where mistakes have real consequences. This requires a high bar, real speed, and systems that hold up under live operations. The people who thrive here own outcomes from start to finish, bring rigor to their work, and help raise the standard for everyone around them.
